CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Dec. 12 (PIA) -- To make the Christmas Season livelier and more festive, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar featured Karibhongan sa Pasko dubbed as "Christmas Around the World" festival participated in by the 10 national government agencies at the Capitol Grounds, Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman.

Christmas Around the World, a competition with a global feel, was opened on Dec. 3 until Jan. 8, 2019.

Government agencies showcased the customs and traditions of 10 countries like India -BIR; Switzerland - NFA; France - DPWH 1st district; Japan - DPWH 2nd district; Australia- DepED (CNHS); Canada- DENR; Brazil- PNP; Mexico- DTI; Italy- Philhealth; and Philippines- UEP," said Provincial Tourism Officer Josette G. Doctor.

The components of the contest are: the nativity scene, Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Christmas lanterns, generous lightings, other characters/decorations/materials applicable to assigned countries as well as interactive display/entertainment that allow active participation of the public, the tourism officer said.

Criteria of the contest includes creativity to depict the uniqueness of the decoration showing imagination and ingenuity but are relevant to the country the agency represent- 40%; adherence to theme (embodies the country the agency is representing) - 40%; interactive decoration or entertainment where the public can actively participate in the over-all set-up of each display area and lots of sparkle and outstanding use of lights and lighting - 10%; while the overall appearance is 10%, she added.

Prizes at stake are P100,000.00 for the 1st place, P80,000.00 for the 2nd place and P80,000.00 for the 3rd place and a consolation of P20,000.00 for the non-winning participants.

Declared winners were: NFA for its Switzerland theme as first prize winner, second was the DPWH 1st Engineering District for its Eiffel Tower in France, and 3rd was DPWH 2nd Engg District for its Japanese theme.
