TOKYO, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Monday morning following U.S. shares' solid lead late last week, after tests from a U.S. pharmaceutical company firm's anti-viral drug showed some positive result in treating COVID-19.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 386.44 points, or 1.73 percent, from Friday to 22,677.25.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 30.95 points, or 2.02 percent, at 1,566.15.

Iron and steel, mining and air transportation issues comprised those that advanced the most by the morning break.
