WASHINGTON -- Walter Mondale, the former U.S. vice president under President Jimmy Carter and the 1984 Democratic presidential nominee, has died at 93, his family announced Monday.

TRIPOLI -- Libya's state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) declared Monday the state of force majeure in the port of Hariga, one of the largest oil ports in the country.

TOKYO -- Japan's western prefecture of Osaka on Tuesday will request that the central government declare a state of emergency for the region owing to surging COVID-19 cases and the ensuing considerable strain on health care facilities, local authorities said.
