WASHINGTON -- Walter Mondale, the former U.S. vice president under President Jimmy Carter and the 1984 Democratic presidential nominee, has died at 93, his family announced Monday.

TRIPOLI -- Libya's state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) declared Monday the state of force majeure in the port of Hariga, one of the largest oil ports in the country.

TOKYO -- Japan's western prefecture of Osaka on Tuesday will request that the central government declare a state of emergency for the region owing to surging COVID-19 cases and the ensuing considerable strain on health care facilities, local authorities said.

The Osaka prefectural government will formalize their decision to request the emergency virus period, the third for the hard-hit prefecture, at a task force meeting to be held in the afternoon on Tuesday, the authorities said. (Japan-Osaka-State Of Emergency)
