KAMPALA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan athletes have stepped up preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games to be held in Japan from July 23-Aug. 8.
Dominic Otuchet, president of the Uganda Athletics Federation told Xinhua in an interview on Tuesday that several athletes will be taking part in international competitions which will help them prepare better for the Games.
"We are targeting a good show at the Olympics and the athletes who have already qualified are preparing well for the event," Otuchet said.
Uganda will be led by 5,000m and 10,000m world champions Joshua Cheptegei at the Tokyo Olympics. Over 15 field runners who have qualified to represent Uganda at the Games, and boxer Shadir Musa Bwogi has also made the team.
"My target at this year's Olympics remains to win two gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000m races. I am preparing well and am determined to perform well at the Games," added Cheptegei who is also a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
