CAIRO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, starts on Wednesday evening this year.

The festival is usually celebrated by Muslims by eating delicious traditional cookies and sweets. It has also been a time-honored tradition in many countries in the Middle East for people to prepare for the festival by buying new dresses, shoes and toys or getting a new haircut.
